Read Scripture Blog: Week 11

This entry may end up being really short (then again… I can be longwinded in my typing!). but I wanted to share a lesson that I’ve needed God to teach me again and again. Maybe one of these days I’ll truly understand!

God has made it abundantly clear to me at times, that His Word is the most powerful force in the universe. His Word is equally capable of creating the most beautiful world and dismantling the most prideful ego. His Word can transform lives, changing a person from the inside out in ways that no self-help book or sermon can ever hope to replicate. I’ve seen hearts and minds changed forever, simply by reading the Word of God.

I don’t understand it all the way, and I don’t know if I can ever hope to on this side of the grave. I have learned, however, that often, all a person needs to do in order to more fully understand the depth of God’s love and grace and their need for a Savior, is for that person to read the Word of God on their own. I’ve learned that often, all a person needs to do in order to grow in understanding of what God desires in their life and for them to begin to take their faith seriously, is for that person to read the Word of God on their own.

I think that I need continual reminders of that lesson because it goes against what I’d like to believe. I’d like to believe that my cleverly worded blog might be responsible for someone’s growth in their faith. I’d like to believe that a sermon or a conversation could have that kind of power. But in actuality, I’ve seen that merely one’s openness to read God’s Word, and to listen to it, is all God needs to transform a life.

The Word of God is powerful. I’m convinced that it is the most powerful force in the universe. As you engage with His Word, be open to inevitable change in your life, and be willing to listen to what He wants to say to you. If you do, I’ve seen just how much God can transform you into what He desires you to be. But it begins, and ends, in His Word.
